Gaz-System has successfully installed over 500 steel foundations at the site of the Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) terminal in the Gulf of Gdańsk. This action is considered a critical step in the progress of the designed project that enables Poland to enhance its energy security and soon bring its first FSRU vessel to port by early 2028.
Details of the LNG Terminal Project in Gdańsk
Gaz-System has announced that the installation of the steel foundations has been successfully completed according to the approved schedule. These stages are particularly significant as part of a project aimed at establishing a second LNG terminal on Poland's shores. Piotr Naimski, Poland's Minister of Energy, stated that the development of LNG infrastructure will strengthen the country's energy security and increase the capacity for importing natural gas from global markets.
Challenges and Opportunities in Energy Security
Given the geopolitical tensions and changes in the energy landscape, the FSRU project in Gdańsk not only assists in supplying energy to Poland but also enhances the country's position at the European level. The ministers responsible for this project emphasized that this strategic investment will contribute to strengthening energy infrastructure and economic development in Poland.
The installed foundations create a roadway structure capable of supporting the platforms and necessary equipment for the operation of FSRUs. Additionally, the construction of the marine section of this project is underway in collaboration with a consortium of companies including FABE Polska.
Wojciech Wrochnia, Secretary General of the Ministry of Energy, announced that the completion of the foundation installation operations at the FSRU terminal in Gdańsk is another step towards launching a new gas supply facility in Poland. This project will increase the capacity for marine gas imports, diversify supply, and create new opportunities to meet domestic energy demand.
Alongside the road construction, Gaz-System has emphasized that the integration operations of the marine and land sections of these facilities are ongoing. In August 2026, the excavation of a microtunnel over one kilometer long beneath forests, sand hills, and beaches in Górki Zachodnie is planned.
Sławomir Hynes, head of Gaz-System, stated that this challenging phase has been successfully completed despite harsh weather conditions. He also emphasized that this terminal will have a resilient physical foundation, and in later stages, platforms and the construction of an underwater gas pipeline are being prepared.
Currently, work on the land section is also progressing well. Tests conducted on the Gdańsk-Gostyń gas pipeline in September confirmed the high standard of work and the good performance of the pipeline.
