The gas restrictions for poultry farms in Gilan have been officially announced to start on October 1, 2026, and this issue has been discussed for months. As the cold season approaches, officials from the Agricultural Jihad of the province have advised poultry farmers to prepare the necessary infrastructure for using alternative fuel, especially diesel.

Emphasis on preparation for alternative fuel

Officials from the Agricultural Jihad of Gilan have stated that poultry farms must check their heating systems before the start of the cold season and be ready to secure alternative fuel. In this regard, diesel has been considered as an alternative fuel so that chicken production does not stop in case of gas pressure drop or restrictions.

The issue is not limited to the heating systems of the halls. In poultry farming units, ventilation equipment, temperature control, and other energy-dependent systems must operate continuously. Therefore, readiness to use alternative fuel is considered part of the production continuity plan.

Consequences of gas restrictions on the poultry industry

Considering that the product is live chicken, halting activities in poultry units directly affects the health of the flock. Officials from the Agricultural Jihad of Gilan have emphasized that any prolonged disruption in energy supply can cause significant damage to poultry farming units. In this context, officials have urged poultry farmers to update their facilities and be prepared to secure alternative fuel before the cold season begins.

Gilan province is recognized as one of the most important suppliers of poultry products in the country, with a significant portion of the poultry farming capacity in the northern part of the country concentrated in this province. The CEO of the National Gas Company of Iran had previously stated that about 33% of the country's poultry farms are located in the northern provinces.

Since any disruption in fuel supply can create a chain of problems in the poultry industry, energy consumption management for Gilan units is not a technical issue and is directly related to the continuity of chicken and egg supply in the market.

Therefore, readiness to use alternative fuel and optimizing energy consumption have been highlighted as two main pillars in the policies of the Agricultural Jihad of Gilan. These measures are particularly important for units with old equipment and can help reduce costs and pressure on the energy network.

Ultimately, considering the economic conditions and rising production costs in recent months, the energy issue will become one of the determining variables of production costs in the poultry industry.
