The Dutch company Fugro has secured a contract with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to map approximately 3,200 square kilometers of seafloor along the Atlantic coast of Florida. This contract is for conducting hydrographic surveys for NOAA's Office of Coast Survey.
Project Details and Objectives
The information obtained from these surveys will enable the updating of nautical charts, which will assist in supporting commercial shipping, government operations, and recreational boating. This coastal area requires accurate navigation data due to increasing marine activities, severe storms, and changes in the seafloor.

Additionally, these surveys will provide information to help monitor coastal changes and protect sensitive marine ecosystems. Céline Gerson, Fugro's Group Director for the Americas, emphasized that "reliable geographic data is essential for safe navigation, efficient marine operations, and understanding how coastal environments change over time."
History of Fugro's Collaboration with NOAA
This new contract continues Fugro's relationship with NOAA and follows recent hydrographic survey work conducted in the Gulf of Florida. Fugro has also contributed to the seafloor mapping initiative in Florida, mapping over 56,000 square kilometers of Florida's waters.
These projects demonstrate Fugro's commitment to providing accurate and efficient data for the marine industry and environmental protection. With the increase in marine activities and climate change, the need for precise and up-to-date information in navigation and coastal management is more pressing than ever.
