Fluor and JGC have been selected as the joint contractors to provide engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning services for Phase 2 of the Canada LNG export facility in Kitimat, British Columbia.

Phase 2 Project Details

Phase 2 includes the construction and commissioning of an additional LNG storage tank and two new liquefaction units, known as "trains," which will nearly double the facility's production capacity to approximately 28 million tons per year. Jim Breuer, CEO of Fluor, emphasized that Phase 1 of the project has been a significant achievement for Fluor, and they are eager to move this initiative to the next stage.

Importance of Investment and Sustainable Development

The decision to advance Phase 2 demonstrates confidence in Canada's ability to responsibly develop natural gas resources and connect them to global markets. Pierre Bechara, President of Fluor's Energy Business Group, stated that achieving a Final Investment Decision (FID) is a significant milestone for the Canada LNG project and Fluor. He also emphasized the importance of safety, quality, and collaboration with local partners and Indigenous communities.

In August 2025, Fluor and JGC received a contract from Canada LNG to update the Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) for the proposed expansion and provide estimation services for the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) scope.

Canada's Role in Global Energy Security

The location of the Canada LNG project on the west coast of the country benefits from access to abundant natural gas resources and an ice-free deep-water port. With the expansion of Phase 2, this facility will be better positioned to contribute to global energy security and strengthen Canada's position as an LNG exporter. Masayuki Sato, Chairman and CEO of JGC Holdings, stated that they are proud to continue collaborating on this historic project and emphasized the importance of safely and responsibly executing Phase 2.
