Murphy Oil Corporation, based in Houston, announced its new successes in exploration and evaluation in the coasts of Africa and Vietnam. The company has recently announced significant achievements in two exploratory and evaluation wells as part of its operational expansion.
Success at Bubale West-1X Well in the Coasts of Africa
The Bubale West-1X well, located in block CI-103 off the coast of Côte d’Ivoire, was drilled to a depth of approximately 19,357 feet (5,900 meters) at 9,039 feet (2,755 meters) below sea level and has discovered about 88 feet (27 meters) of net oil in the Turonian reservoir. Additionally, evidence of additional hydrocarbons in the deeper Albian reservoir has been obtained. Initial analyses indicate that this oil is of high quality.

Murphy, with an 85% working interest in block CI-103, acts as the operator of this project, with the remaining 15% belonging to Société Nationale d’Opérations Pétrolières de la Côte d’Ivoire (PETROCI). The data collected from the Bubale West-1X well will aid in optimizing the remaining evaluation program.
Exploratory Discovery at Lac Da Trang North-1X Well in Vietnam
Murphy Oil also reported a successful discovery at the Lac Da Trang North-1X well located in block 15-1/05 off the coast of Vietnam. This well was drilled to a depth of approximately 12,579 feet (3,834 meters) at 147 feet (45 meters) below sea level and has discovered about 131 feet (40 meters) of net oil. Data related to this well will be evaluated to explore possible evaluation and development options.
Murphy operates block 15-1/05 with a 40% working interest. Additionally, PetroVietnam Exploration Production Corporation has joined the project with a 35% interest, and SK Earthon holds a 25% interest.
The company also announced the first oil production from the Lac Da Vang field off the coast of Vietnam starting on September 27, 2026. Production from this field is expected to increase by 2028. Peak net production from this field is projected to reach approximately 10-15 million barrels of oil equivalent per day (boepd) in 2028-2029.
In the United States, the Chinook development well in block Walker Ridge 425 has also been brought online, with production being conducted via the floating production, storage, and offloading vessel Pioneer. This well has currently achieved an initial gross production rate of approximately 15 million boepd.
Eric M. Hambly, President and CEO of Murphy, stated: “These achievements demonstrate Murphy's ability to create value through exploration, evaluation, and development. The resource expansion in Bubale West-1X and Lac Da Trang North-1X enhances our potential, and progress in the development of Lac Da Vang and Chinook showcases our ability to convert resources into production and cash flow.”
