The International Union of Green Transport Corridors was launched in Beijing as a new international entity to coordinate the development of green transport corridors and accelerate international cooperation in the areas of transport, ports, fuels, and regulations. This union was inaugurated during the 2026 Global Sustainable Transport Conference and brings together 45 companies and organizations from 12 countries.
Founding Companies and Goals of the Union
Founding companies include COSCO, CMA CGM, Shanghai International Port Group, China Energy Engineering Group, and the Global Sustainable Transport Innovation and Knowledge Center. This union is recognized as the world's first non-governmental international organization specifically focused on cooperation in green transport corridors.
The priorities of this union include aligning domestic regulations with international standards regarding green ships, alternative marine fuels, and green ports. Additionally, the union aims to create an international certification system for green marine fuels. The group will also coordinate measures to facilitate transport, support pilot corridors, promote technology development and commercialization, and establish cooperation in the marine value chain.
Union President and Expansion of Green Corridors
Fu Xuyin, former Vice Minister of Transport of China and former head of the China Maritime Safety Administration, has been elected as the inaugural president of this union. Green transport corridors have significantly expanded in recent years, as ports, carriers, fuel suppliers, and governments strive to create specific trade routes where low-carbon and carbon-free fuels and supportive infrastructure are widely implemented.
The establishment of this union aims to provide a broader international framework that connects individual corridor initiatives. With increasing concerns about climate change and the need for more sustainable resources, this union seeks to act as an effective entity in accelerating the transition towards green transport.
