Perenco UK, part of the Anglo-Saxon oil and gas company Perenco, along with specialist contractor Petrofac, has completed the removal and plugging (P&A) campaign for marine infrastructure in the Southern North Sea (SNS). This action is considered an important step in the decommissioning activities in the region.
Details of the Removal and Plugging Operations
Perenco UK has confirmed that the underwater assets of Leman South (53/02a-15Y) and Durango (48/21a-4z) in the Southern North Sea have been successfully plugged and abandoned as part of a single campaign. This complex operation was carried out safely and according to the agreed schedule, using the jack-up vessel Hawa belonging to contractor Petrofac. The project relied on recent experiences from the underwater abandonment projects of Gavan, Arthur, and Davy that were conducted with the same vessel.

Strengths and Lessons Learned
Joe White, CEO of Perenco UK in SNS, stated: "The Leman South and Durango campaigns were not routine P&A projects. They demonstrated Perenco's ability to deliver complex and large-scale underwater removal and infrastructure recovery projects using an innovative single campaign approach based on Petrofac's Hawa. " This work avoided reliance on costly drilling rigs and independent marine projects.
Perenco UK thanked its colleagues and team for their contributions to delivering some of the most complex underwater abandonment activities in SNS.
Implications and Future Projects
This achievement in the UK comes as Perenco has recently signed a contract for the gas project Su Tu Trang Phase 2B in Block 15-1 offshore Vietnam, which is expected to supply over 600 billion cubic feet of gas over its lifetime. This contract represents the expansion of Perenco's activities in various energy and gas sectors internationally.
