On the first day of Mehr 1405, Mohammad Mohibi, the Director General of the Office for Preventing Oil Product Smuggling, stated in the Economic Desk of the News Network that approximately 25 million liters of fuel are smuggled daily. This situation has arisen particularly due to the increase in fuel prices in neighboring countries and changes in the geography of smuggling to the central provinces of the country.

Analysis of Fuel Smuggling Statistics

Mohibi stated that over 51% of smuggling cases in the oil product sector have been registered, and 80% of this smuggling is related to diesel. According to the obtained information, 50% of diesel smuggling is related to the transportation sector. He emphasized that a comprehensive tracking system has been designed to manage this situation.

Changes in Smuggling Geography and Existing Challenges

The Director General of the Office for Preventing Oil Product Smuggling emphasized the changes in the geography of fuel smuggling in the country, stating that currently, most violations occur in the central provinces. He also pointed out that addressing the source of smuggling is the most effective way to reduce this phenomenon. Mohibi added: "As long as the agencies do not have a model for allocation and fuel distribution is not based on the actual needs of different sectors, it is impossible to eliminate fuel smuggling."

In this context, Mohammad Mahdi Sidi, advisor to the CEO of the Oil Products Refining and Distribution Company, referred to the method of fuel allocation and the necessity of oversight, stating that one of the ways to prevent fuel smuggling is to reform allocations and increase accountability of the agencies regarding the fuel they receive. Currently, a comprehensive intelligent fuel management system is being designed and implemented, which includes real-time monitoring of the production to distribution chain of oil products.

Police Actions in the Fight Against Fuel Smuggling

Brigadier General Jalal Amini, head of the Anti-Smuggling Police, referred to the police's actions in combating fuel smuggling during this program. He stated that over one billion liters of fuel have been discovered as lost property in the past year, and the police have managed to reduce fuel smuggling by 5 million liters through tracing these discoveries. Amini also announced that between 20 to 25 million liters of fuel smuggling is reported daily in the country, and a significant portion of this smuggling is conducted in an organized manner.

He noted that oversight and control in the responsible agencies are very weak, and if this oversight were conducted properly, we would not be facing this volume of smuggling. Brigadier General Amini emphasized that actions should shift towards systematic and real-time monitoring.
