The subsea rock installation vessel Rock Star has been launched as the first vessel of the two-vessel subsea rock installation (SRI) fleet belonging to CSL OWL SRI in Rotterdam. This project is the result of collaboration between CSL Group and Offshore Wind Logistics (OWL), which announced the order for the construction of two vessels to serve the offshore renewable energy sector in November 2024.
Construction Details and Vessel Features
The construction of the Rock Star vessel began in September 2025 with the cutting of the first steel plate. This vessel is capable of operating in depths of up to 100 meters and is designed to provide services for challenging offshore renewable energy projects. CSL OWL SRI stated that this vessel, with advanced capabilities, precision in rock installation, and the ability to use methanol, is approaching a new level of capabilities in the offshore renewable energy sector.

Technical Specifications and Loading Capacity
DP2 vessels are designed with a loading capacity of 17,500 metric tons and are capable of installing rock materials of various weights. These vessels can install rocks weighing between 60 to 300 kilograms and are equipped with an option to handle rocks up to 450 kilograms. The transport straps of these vessels are designed to withstand rocks weighing up to 1,500 kilograms, and a side outlet for larger rocks has been provided.
The second vessel of this project is expected to be operational by November 2026. With the launch of these vessels, CSL OWL SRI aims to strengthen offshore renewable energy infrastructure and meet the growing demands of this industry.
