A cargo ship flying the Bahamian flag named Sunny Faith, owned by a Chinese owner, ran aground near the coast of Kaliningrad on October 9, 2023. The ship, with a capacity of 17,221 tons, was en route from Skikda, Algeria to Kaliningrad when it ran aground due to a severe storm and strong winds.
Details of the Incident
Following a storm with wind speeds of about 60 miles per hour, the crew of the ship appears to have misjudged the direction and intensity of the storm. The 130-meter-long Sunny Faith ran aground without declaring an emergency and is located near the resort town of Yantarny. There were 19 crew members on board during the incident.

Consequences and Investigations
The maritime rescue service contacted the Sunny Faith, and the captain reported that there was no need for evacuation and that conditions on the ship were suitable. However, they are waiting for the sea to calm and wave heights to decrease so that tugboats can take action to free the ship from the shore.
Local authorities expressed limited concerns about marine pollution and stated that the ship was traveling with ballast and apparently has no damage or leaks in its hull. However, the Northwestern Transportation Prosecutor's Office announced that a preliminary investigation into the incident will be initiated.
This incident has attracted tourists to the shores of Kaliningrad, and local authorities have even published routes for visitors to access the ship. Due to being caught in the storm, this ship has become a temporary attraction for tourists.
