The United States Central Command, CENTCOM, announced that American forces have successfully cleared naval mines from the main shipping routes in the Strait of Hormuz, allowing free passage for vessels that do not violate U.S. maritime sanctions against the Islamic Republic.
Clearing Mines and Ensuring Maritime Security
CENTCOM announced on Friday, October 9, in a message in Persian on the social media platform X: "Thanks to CENTCOM forces who have successfully cleared naval mines from the main transit routes, the routes for free passage through the Strait of Hormuz are open for all vessels that do not violate U.S. maritime sanctions against Iran."

This operation was conducted to ensure security and facilitate the movement of vessels in this strategic waterway. The Central Command of the U.S. also emphasized that as a result of this operation, thousands of commercial vessels have safely passed through the Strait of Hormuz.
Sanctions and Their Consequences
This announcement comes at a time when the United States is imposing restrictions on vessels related to the export of oil and the sanctioned trade of the Iranian government as part of its economic pressure campaign and maritime blockade. The U.S. Department of the Treasury also imposed new sanctions on Thursday, October 8, against individuals, networks, and 17 vessels associated with the export of crude oil and petroleum products of the Iranian government.
These actions are part of President Trump's administration's "Economic Isolation Operations" campaign to limit the financial resources of the Islamic Republic and prevent circumvention of U.S. sanctions. In this context, CENTCOM, as the U.S. military entity, is responsible for overseeing maritime security in this sensitive region and is working to ensure safe passage for ships by clearing threatening elements.
The recent announcement from CENTCOM regarding the clearing of naval mines and the opening of passage routes in the Strait of Hormuz comes as the U.S. simultaneously emphasizes maintaining maritime restrictions against the Islamic Republic while allowing commercial shipping to continue for vessels that do not violate these sanctions.
