Today, Cape Canaveral held a ceremony to officially donate the keys to "Truck 52," which was previously used by the Cape Canaveral Fire Department, to Eastern Florida State College (EFSC). This truck will serve as an essential piece of equipment for the college's fire training center.
Donation Details
During the ceremony held at Cape Canaveral, Captain John Murray, CEO of Cape Canaveral, and Jeff Crowley, Deputy Chief of the Cape Canaveral Fire Department, presented the symbolic keys of the truck to Jack Parker, Vice President of External Affairs at Eastern Florida State College. Captain Murray stated at the event, "We are proud to donate this valuable equipment to the educational program at Eastern Florida State College." He added that Truck 52 has served the Cape community well and will now continue to educate the next generation of firefighters and first responders.
Truck Specifications and Its Use in Training
The fire truck donated to the college is a 2012 Pierce Velocity model, 75 feet long. This truck has a pumping capacity of 2000 gallons per minute and a 400-gallon tank, and it can carry up to 1000 feet of 5-inch water supply hose. This truck provides students and participants in training courses with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in rescue operations, firefighting, and aerial operations.
Eastern Florida State College also offers other training programs including fire science degree courses and advanced training in fire science. Dr. James Ritchie, President of EFSC, expressed his pleasure with the donation, saying, "Support from our partners like Cape Canaveral and the Cape Canaveral Fire Department is vital to our efforts in educating and training the next generation of firefighters and first responders."
Cape Canaveral has also donated firefighting equipment to other organizations in the past, and this donation to EFSC demonstrates the ongoing commitment of Cape Canaveral and the Cape Canaveral Fire Department to support firefighter education and emergency preparedness in the region. Additionally, Cape Canaveral conducts specialized training in liquid natural gas firefighting for cruise lines and other organizations.
