Economic Value and Dimensions of Fuel Smuggling
The head of the Economic Security Police of Hormozgan announced the value of this amount of smuggled fuel, based on the opinion of economic experts, to be approximately 445 billion and 420 million rials. The suspect was introduced to the judicial authorities for legal proceedings after a case was formed and was sent to prison with an appropriate bail. Organized diesel smuggling in Hormozgan has always been one of the main focuses of the police, security, and judicial authorities due to the geographical location and extensive maritime borders of this province.
In recent years, dealing with this phenomenon has gone beyond the seizure of shipments and the arrest of fuel carriers, and identifying the masterminds and main operators of smuggling has also become a priority. Numerous cases have been formed regarding the dismantling of organized fuel smuggling gangs in the province, indicating the serious determination of the police in this area. For example, a case of smuggling 27 million liters of diesel that led to a final verdict in 1404 for 14 members of the network and the conviction of four main masterminds to five years in prison and fines is one of the prominent examples of these actions.
These cases emphasize the necessity of addressing the root causes of organizing and financing fuel smuggling and show that a sole focus on carriers and minor agents is insufficient. This new approach could significantly reduce the volume of fuel smuggling and enhance economic security in the province.
