Abbas Basafa, the director of the smart fuel system, announced the start of the "identification" process for fueling during a program on Radio Economy, referring to legal obligations to increase the use of personal cards in the fueling process. According to Basafa, this plan has been designed and implemented to enhance transparency and prevent off-network fuel supply.

Details of the New Fueling Plan

He added: "In previous years, the use of personal fuel cards faced challenges due to issues such as forgetting the card and limitations of emergency cards." Basafa also stated that individuals can use a valid bank card to complete the fueling process, and after swiping the card, they receive a voucher containing a four-digit code through which the fuel receipt process is completed.

The director of the smart fuel system emphasized that there is no need to receive SMS or send information via mobile phone for this process, and the equipment used performs the authentication and token issuance process on-site.

Fueling Limit Restrictions

Basafa also mentioned regarding the fueling limit: "Currently in Tehran, the fueling limit is set at 25 liters per session." This restriction has been designed to better manage fueling and prevent excessive consumption. According to him, this plan will be implemented across Tehran at the beginning of October and subsequently throughout the country.

The director of the smart fuel system also referred to the security of the infrastructure of this plan and said: "One of the reasons for designing this method was to create an alternative fueling method and reduce dependence on a single method." Basafa emphasized that personal fuel cards remain valid, and the quotas related to personal cards will be charged according to the established procedures on individuals' fuel cards.

Modern Technologies and Combating Fuel Smuggling

He also discussed the use of license plate recognition cameras for fuel management, stating: "This issue has been examined, and various plans in this regard have been evaluated, but the use of license plate recognition cameras faces challenges such as plate quality and the high cost of professional equipment."

Basafa further pointed to diesel smuggling and the possibility of further smartening this sector, adding: "In the oil and gas sector, there are online systems, and the quotas for fleets are charged based on the information and performance sent by the Road Maintenance and Urban Development Organization and municipalities to the vehicles' fuel cards." He also emphasized that the main goal of using modern technologies in the smart fuel system is to reduce smuggling and prevent off-network supply.
