Yinson Production, a subsidiary of Yinson based in Kuala Lumpur, along with Eni, the Italian energy giant, has decided to undertake a major refurbishment project on a Floating Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel off the coast of Ghana. This project aims to enhance regional energy security and increase gas export capacity.
Gas Refurbishment Project Details
Yinson Production has signed a contract amendment with Eni for the significant Non-Associated Gas (NAG) modifications project on the John Agyekum Kufuor FPSO. This amendment allows Yinson to extend the lease period of this FPSO for four years until 2036. These modifications are aimed at enhancing the gas management and processing capabilities of the vessel to strengthen domestic gas supply in Ghana and support regional energy security.

Increasing Gas Export Capacity
The main goal of the NAG project is to install a gas compression system to address reservoir pressure declines and increase gas export capacity from approximately 210 to 220 million standard cubic feet per day (scf/d) to 355 million cubic feet per day. This project is expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2028 and includes the construction and integration of two key modules in the topside designed to enhance the gas management capacity of the FPSO. These modules include the MG2 module, which features two gas turbine compressors, and the MC4 module, a side gas treatment module designed to handle higher gas volumes.
Yinson Production has stated that engineering, procurement, and construction activities for the MG2 and MC4 modules will be carried out in accordance with stringent offshore safety and quality standards to ensure operational continuity and asset integrity during execution.
The John Agyekum Kufuor FPSO operates in the Offshore Cape Three Points (OCTP) block in Ghana and is responsible for processing non-associated oil and gas from the Sankofa Gye Nyame fields.
