Sergei Sobyanin, the Mayor of Moscow, announced that on Saturday, Ukraine carried out its largest drone attack on the city. In this attack, 450 drones were shot down on their way to the Russian capital, with the main targets being the Moscow oil refinery and a residential building.

Details of the Attack and Consequences

According to Sobyanin, this attack resulted in the deaths of at least two people and injured about 20 others. Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of Ukraine, confirmed that Ukrainian forces attacked key Russian oil facilities and a logistics center in the area using drones and rockets. He described these facilities as part of the infrastructure that provides billions of dollars for Russia's war machine.

In this context, Ukrainian officials reported that in retaliatory attacks by Russia on the Kyiv and Sumy regions, 9 people, including three children, lost their lives. These events occur as both countries have significantly increased their attacks on each other's energy facilities and infrastructure.

Impact of the Attack on Russian Energy Infrastructure

Following this attack, Andrei Vorobyov, the Governor of the Moscow region, reported that a 44-year-old woman and an elderly man lost their lives in incidents related to this attack. This attack has caused significant damage to the Moscow oil refinery, which supplies more than one-third of the fuel needed for the region. Part of the fuel produced by this refinery is allocated to the Russian military, and targeting it helps weaken Russia's ability to continue the war.

The Ukrainian Minister of Defense also emphasized that targeting enemy energy facilities severely undermines their ability to continue offensive warfare and meet military needs. Sobyanin also described this attack as an attempt to disrupt the Russian parliamentary elections, which are heavily controlled by the Kremlin.

Ukraine's attacks on Moscow come as Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of Ukraine, reported on Russian attacks in various regions of Ukraine, particularly an attack on a monastery in the Kherson region that resulted in the death of a clergyman and injuries to four others. This exchange of attacks reflects the escalating tensions between the two countries in the current period.
