Two tankers were targeted in the Strait of Hormuz while passing through this strategic waterway, leading to injuries to two crew members. These events contribute to the increasing number of attacks against commercial vessels in this sensitive area.
Details of the Attacks
According to maritime reports, a tanker entering the Strait of Hormuz was struck by an unknown projectile. Two crew members of this tanker sustained minor injuries, but the ship continued its journey and headed to its next port. No environmental impact from this incident has been reported.
Several hours later, another warning was issued by maritime authorities regarding an LPG tanker that was exiting the strait. The captain of this tanker reported that the ship was struck by debris from unknown projectiles. All crew members are safe, and this tanker also continued its journey.
Security Situation Analysis
These attacks increase the total number of attacks or security incidents related to tankers in the Strait of Hormuz to at least five since September ١٦. The JMIC center has assessed the threat level in the Strait of Hormuz as "severe" and stated that deliberate hostile action in the current circumstances is "highly likely." This center also referred to the continued attacks and efforts by the Quds Force of the Revolutionary Guards and monitoring of commercial vessels.
However, maritime authorities have not attributed any of the attacks on Monday to specific projects, describing them as unknown. These new attacks occur while commercial traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has significantly decreased.
According to published data, only ١٧ cargo ships were observed passing through the Strait of Hormuz last weekend, a decrease from ٣٧ ships the previous week. This is while, before the war began, an average of about ١٢٥ ships passed through this waterway daily.
