The repairs will include special inspections and maintenance of the hull, structure, machinery, and propulsion systems. This project will lead to synergy between the technical teams and fleet of Maersk and Indian contractors and suppliers.
Development of the shipbuilding industry in India
Maersk's agreements with L&T (Larsen & Toubro) and Cochin Shipyard align with India's goals to develop the country's maritime and shipbuilding industry. In October 2025, Maersk changed the flag of two other tankers, Maersk Vigo and Maersk Vilnius, to the Indian flag to comply with new cabotage restrictions in India.
These actions will help India increase its maritime capabilities and reduce dependence on foreign tankers. Additionally, the Indian government is taking measures to support the development of shipbuilding and enhance its capabilities.
Overall, this project will not only enhance shipbuilding capabilities in India but also contribute to the development of the country's maritime industry. Given Maersk's development plans, the company's presence in India could further aid in growth and advancements in this industry.
