Saeed Tavakoli, the CEO of the National Iranian Gas Company, explained the actions taken to prepare the country's gas network ahead of the cold months of the year, stating: All major repairs and necessary actions to enhance the stability of the network have been carried out in various sectors, including refineries, transmission networks, pressure boosting stations, and distribution networks. Tavakoli also hopes that with the preparedness established, the gas network will enter the cold months of the year as planned.
Energy Imbalance and Its Impact on Provinces
The CEO of the National Iranian Gas Company, referring to the energy imbalance that could affect the stability of gas supply in some provinces, said: Given the conditions of the network, several provinces will be sporadically affected by gas stress, with three provinces facing more severe conditions. To maintain stability in other provinces, changes in the network configuration and the implementation of planned technical and procedural measures have been arranged.
Tavakoli explained: The country's gas network functions like the body's blood circulation system; therefore, by implementing alternative lines, creating bypass routes, and changing operational configurations, we aim to keep the affected areas as stable as possible. He noted the level of energy imbalance in previous years, stating: During some peak consumption days in past years, the level of gas imbalance reached about 250 to 300 million cubic meters.
Preventive Measures and Consumption Management
The CEO of the National Iranian Gas Company emphasized the importance of supplying gas to the northern provinces of the country, stating: Given the location of these provinces at the end of the gas supply chain and their increased vulnerability in conditions of imbalance, coordination among the National Gas Company, provincial governors, and other responsible agencies has been prioritized. Tavakoli continued: Various operational scenarios and necessary action plans have been developed for the measures that fall under the responsibility of the National Gas Company and the duties of other agencies.
He pointed out the possibility of gas supply restrictions in critical conditions, saying: For all scenarios, from the worst-case to more realistic conditions, alternative plans have been anticipated, and these actions are being pursued in the provinces in coordination with the governors. Tavakoli also emphasized the role of the public in managing energy consumption and called for avoiding excessive gas and other energy carrier consumption.
The CEO of the National Iranian Gas Company further noted the impact of ambient temperature reduction on gas consumption, stating: If each household reduces the ambient temperature of their home by just one degree Celsius during peak consumption days, it would collectively contribute about 25 million cubic meters to the stability of the country's gas network.
