Abbas Basafa, the manager of the Smart Fuel System, announced the implementation of the plan to identify fuel cards in order to prevent fuel smuggling. This action comes in response to the increased use of emergency fuel cards, which have created problems for the country's fuel distribution system due to the lack of user identity verification.
Increased Use of Emergency Cards
Basafa explained that emergency cards were designed to facilitate fueling for individuals who have forgotten their fuel cards. However, currently, 40 to 45 percent of fueling is done using these cards. This means that a significant amount of fuel is being distributed without precise monitoring and identification of user identities.
Details of the Card Identification Plan
The manager of the Smart Fuel System stated that the card identification plan is designed to identify individuals using emergency cards. Thus, when individuals visit fueling stations, their identities will be verified through valid bank cards. By swiping a bank card, customers can select the amount of fuel they need and proceed with the fueling process.
Basafa also mentioned that people must pay 1,000 Tomans to receive a password from electronic payment companies. He emphasized that the fueling process cannot be done with gift cards, as these types of cards do not have an identity behind them, and the system cannot identify users.
Future Steps and Implementation of the Plan
This system is updated in real-time and has currently started in Tehran. Gradually, this plan will be implemented in metropolitan areas and other parts of the country. Basafa clarified that this plan has no cap, and fueling will be done as much as needed. He also noted that in this plan, fuel is given to vehicle owners, not to vehicles.
The manager of the Smart Fuel System assured the public that all scenarios have been considered and they should not have any concerns. This plan can be an effective step towards reducing fuel smuggling and improving the fuel distribution system in the country.
