Jinsha Heavy Industry (Tianjin) has recently been registered with an investment of 70 million yuan (equivalent to 10 million dollars). The company has announced that its activities include shipbuilding, ship design, ship repair and modification, offshore engineering equipment, and marine components.
Investment Location and Objectives
This investment is located in the Tianjin Binhai New Area. However, Shagang has not yet announced any purchases of shipbuilding platforms, manufacturing facilities, or fleet orders. The company is recognized as a major supplier of steel sheets for Chinese workshops and the Jiangsu-based group is also active in transportation, terminal, and logistics related to steel operations.
China's Dominance in the Shipbuilding Industry
China's dominance in the global shipbuilding industry continues to strengthen. According to Clarkson data, Chinese shipyards secured 76% of all new shipbuilding orders in cgt terms in the first nine months of 2026, while South Korea held only 15% of this market. By the end of September, China controlled 68% of the total global order book, compared to 17% for South Korea.
This move by Shagang into the shipbuilding sector reflects the company's efforts to expand its range of activities and capitalize on the growth of the global shipbuilding market. Given recent developments in this field and the increasing demand for new ships, this investment appears to have the potential for greater successes in the future.
