Seatrium, a marine engineering company based in Singapore, has expanded its collaboration with Karpowership, a provider of floating power solutions in Turkey, and has taken on the responsibility for the conversion project of the ninth Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU).
Details of the LNGT Akdeniz Project
The LNGT Akdeniz project involves converting an LNG carrier into an FSRU unit, with work set to begin in the first quarter of 2027. Karpowership's Role in Energy Projects
Gokhan Kucak, Technical Operations Manager at Karpowership, stated about this collaboration: "The successful delivery of LNGT Türkiye and the awarding of LNGT Akdeniz are significant milestones in the ongoing growth of Karpowership's LNG-to-Power business. These FSRU units help us provide reliable and flexible energy solutions to markets where energy security is critical."
Following the awarding of the LNGT Karadeniz contract, LNGT Akdeniz is the second project to emerge under the previous agreement between the two companies. This agreement also includes the potential integration of up to six next-generation Powerships, allowing both companies to respond to the changing global energy needs through integrated floating energy solutions.
History of Seatrium's Activities
Alvin Gan, Executive Vice President of Repairs and Upgrades at Seatrium, said: "What began as a bold vision in 2018 has evolved into a strong and sustainable partnership built on trust and shared success. The awarding of LNGT Akdeniz as our ninth FSRU project with Karpowership is a testament to the strength of this collaboration and reinforces Seatrium's position as a global leader in floating LNG infrastructure solutions."
Since 2007, Seatrium has completed 22 FSRU and FSU conversion projects, and Karpowership operates the only Powership fleet in the world with 45 vessels. With the addition of LNGT Akdeniz, Kinetics will expand its LNG fleet to 12 vessels.
