The readiness of executive agencies in Kurdistan to face the predicted rainfall in the second half of October was discussed in a meeting of the provincial crisis management headquarters. This meeting was held to prevent problems arising from rainfall, flooding, and disruptions in energy supply.

Preventive Measures and Crisis Management

In this meeting, officials from various agencies presented reports on the current situation and emphasized the necessity of implementing preventive measures. These measures include clearing channels and drains, identifying hazardous areas, monitoring reservoir levels, and preparing at-risk villages. Additionally, the Governor of Kurdistan stressed the importance of strictly following the crisis management guidelines and the responsibilities of agency managers in this regard.

Attention to Energy Supply and Gas Management

Arash Zareh Tan Lehooni, the Governor of Kurdistan, emphasized the necessity of starting preventive measures immediately and stated that municipalities should focus on clearing channels and water pathways. He also mentioned the potential for gas supply issues in some areas of the province and announced the formation of a special committee to manage this issue. This committee will include relevant agencies such as gas, oil, electricity, and the Red Crescent.

The Governor of Kurdistan also stressed the need for transparency regarding the gas supply situation to the public so that they are not caught off guard in securing heating appliances and necessary fuel. Planning for fuel reserves in at-risk counties is another action that needs to be taken.

Importance of Identifying Hazardous Areas and Agency Preparedness

Tahsin Aziz, the Director General of Crisis Management in the Kurdistan Governorate, emphasized the need to identify villages located along rivers and flood-prone areas. He also reported the issuance of over 30 guidelines for the preparedness of agencies during the cold season and stated that service agencies must enhance their readiness in counties at risk of rainfall and snow.

Amir Ghaderi, the Deputy Coordinator of Urban Affairs in the Kurdistan Governorate, also emphasized the need for managing dams and flood-prone areas and stated that urban runoff management should not be limited to the time of an incident but should utilize natural capacities for proper water guidance.

Readiness of the Kurdistan Regional Water Company

Arash Aryan Jad, the CEO of the Kurdistan Regional Water Company, reported in this meeting the company's readiness to face autumn rainfall and stated that the status of the province's dams is continuously monitored. He also emphasized that the inflow and outflow of reservoirs should be checked daily.

The CEO of the Kurdistan Regional Water Company mentioned the necessity of cooperation and coordination among relevant agencies upstream and downstream of rivers and called for collaboration from governors and municipalities in managing flood risks.

Conclusion

Considering the forecast of significant rainfall in the second half of October, executive agencies in Kurdistan have planned substantial actions for crisis management and energy supply. These actions include prevention, identifying hazardous areas, and preparing for the necessary fuel and energy supply.
