Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, at the public session of the twenty-third annual meeting of the Valdai International Discussion Club, emphasized the need to lift Iran's sanctions and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. He stated that developments surrounding Iran are being closely monitored globally and expressed his astonishment at the courage and resilience of the Iranian people.
Sanctions and the Need for Dialogue
Putin announced: "We hope the Strait will also reopen and the sanctions will be lifted; a matter that Iran rightly demands. Unjust sanctions against Iran must be lifted." He believes that lifting these restrictions will eliminate the necessity for imposing limitations on the passage of civilian vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea region. These remarks were made in a context where the region is severely affected by political and military tensions due to sanctions.

Russia's Proposals for Cooperation
The President of Russia also referred to his country's proposal to transfer part of Iran's enriched uranium to Russian territory, stating that Moscow had conducted such a transfer in 2015 as well. He continued that the U.S. position on this matter has hardened, and Washington is demanding the transfer of materials only to its own territory, which has faced opposition from Iran. Putin believes that such actions should be resolved through peaceful dialogue and international agreements.
He also criticized the outdated decision-making mechanisms in the United Nations and emphasized that decisions regarding the use of armed force should be approved by the UN Security Council and should not be made unilaterally. Putin suggested that the representation of the majority of the world's countries in the Security Council, including India and African countries, should be strengthened.
Putin also criticized the military and coercive pressures on China, referring to the friendly and trust-based relations between Russia and China, stating that this interaction could contribute to the stability of global politics. He mentioned China's "Belt and Road" initiative and discussed the economic alignments between the two countries.
At the end of his remarks, Putin referred to the economic situation in Russia and its challenges, stating that despite the problems, his country has the capacity to overcome the current conditions. He also addressed the necessity of controlling inflation and the government's programs in this regard.
