History and Previous Steps
This order marks the first action by Lavinia Bulkers in the Newcastlemax tanker construction sector since 2013, when the company ordered six tankers of this type. These tankers still remain part of the group's dry bulk fleet.
The Laskaridis group is also expanding its activities in the crude tanker sector. In April, the Lavinia Tankers branch of the group was linked to the order of a fourth Suezmax tanker weighing 157,000 tons at DH Shipbuilding in South Korea, following the registration of orders for three sister tankers earlier this year.
This $89 million tanker expanded the program that had started with two units in January, and the owner exercised additional options. The expansion of the tanker fleet follows initial investments in MR product carriers at Changhong, where Lavinia is now reported to be returning for its new cargo ship program.
