Pacifico Energy Vietnam has taken a new step in the development of renewable energy in the country by launching a technical survey campaign for two offshore wind projects with a total capacity of 1.8 gigawatts. This campaign has commenced following the necessary permits from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam and is being conducted in collaboration with PetroVietnam Technical Services Corporation (PTSC).
Project Details and Obtained Permits
The campaign will begin with geophysical surveys to assess the seabed topography, geology, and site conditions for two offshore wind projects: the 500 megawatt Nam Bo and the 1.3 gigawatt Nam Trung Bo 3. Pacifico Energy received the survey permit for the 500 megawatt project in February 2026 and also obtained the permit for the Nam Trung Bo 3 project in September of the same year for development along the coast of Lam Dong province.
Investment Opportunities and Economic Impacts
These permits allow Pacifico Energy to conduct field research and prepare the projects for design, investment, and subsequent permitting stages. The American company has stated that the two projects could attract over $6 billion in investment and create opportunities for Vietnamese companies in the offshore wind supply chain, including in areas such as surveying, ports, logistics, construction, and operations.
Pacifico Energy has been active in Vietnam since 2017 and currently manages the 40 megawatt Mui Ne solar power plant and the 30 megawatt Sunpro wind farm. The company has identified offshore wind energy as a long-term strategic priority and is developing three projects as part of the 3.2 gigawatt Jindo offshore wind cluster in South Korea. This cluster includes the 420 megawatt Myeong Ryang, the 990 megawatt Manho, and the 1.8 gigawatt Jindo Baram projects.
