The Welsh Marine Energy Test Center (META) is strengthening its activities with a one-year investment from Crown Estate. This investment will not only support the continuity of META's operations but will also aid in the development and testing of technologies related to waves, tides, floating offshore wind, and marine hydrogen.
Impact of Investment on Technology Development
The Crown Estate investment enables META to achieve further developments, enhance marine data collection and environmental monitoring capabilities, and expand the supply chain. Additionally, this investment will support ongoing communication and educational programs in the Pembrokeshire area, particularly in local communities.
Statement from the META Test Site Manager
Saul Young, the manager of the META test site, commented on this investment: "This investment from Crown Estate represents an important vote of confidence in META and the role that marine testing facilities play in accelerating the marine energy sector. META is now part of a global network of accredited test centers, and this long-term support allows us to continue providing critical infrastructure for technology developers and researchers."
He also noted: "This funding comes at a crucial time for META, Wales, and the whole of the UK, as we are accelerating the development and deployment of zero-carbon technologies to meet our climate goals and enhance energy security."
The Welsh Marine Energy Test Center is the only pre-licensing and pre-commercial testing facility of its kind in Wales and is owned and managed by the Pembrokeshire Coastal Forum. This center was established to support innovative technologies in the field of marine renewable energy and to achieve climate goals, acting as a laboratory platform for technology companies.
