Omega Subsea has signed a five-year contract with NKT to provide remotely operated vehicle (ROV) systems for NKT's new cable-laying vessel, NKT Eleonora. This contract follows a similar agreement for NKT Victoria reported in June.
Contract Details and Future Plans
These agreements are part of a larger investment plan, which anticipates that Omega Subsea's entire ROV fleet will exceed 30 systems by mid-2028. Of the eight new Kystdesign systems scheduled for delivery in 2026, four will be utilized in NKT projects.
Timeline and Operational Activities
Activities related to the relocation of ROV systems for NKT Victoria and NKT Eleonora are currently underway at shipbuilding workshops in Ulsteinvik and Brattvåg. Operations on NKT Victoria are expected to commence before the end of this year, while the relocation of ROV systems on NKT Eleonora is anticipated to take place in January next year.
For NKT Victoria, Omega Subsea will also supply two launch and recovery systems (LARS) from Ulmatec, which will be installed on the vessel and configured to support operations with the two new ROVs.
NKT's Role in the Cable-Laying Industry
Omega Subsea's CEO, Trond Bergh, stated, "NKT is a key player in the cable installation industry, and our selection to support its two modern cable-laying vessels reflects strong confidence. We are expanding both our equipment base and our organization to support long-term operations and multiple projects simultaneously."
Bergh also added, "The cable installation market is characterized as one with long-term demand and significant growth potential. We will continue to operate as a comprehensive underwater service provider while strengthening our position in areas where we see sustainable activity and long-term opportunities."
Omega Subsea is also planning to recruit between six to twelve new employees for marine and land positions, while expanding its warehouse and logistics capacity at its Hilleren facility.
