Badr al-Busaidi, Oman's Foreign Minister, during his visit to Pakistan, stated that the finalization of the agreement with Iran concerning the Strait of Hormuz depends on the ongoing negotiations between the U.S. and Iran. These remarks highlight the importance of regional diplomacy and its impact on maritime security in strategic waters.

Regional Dialogues and Security Challenges

According to published reports, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Pakistan's Foreign Minister, also emphasized the need to increase efforts to resolve the crisis in the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait during his talks with Oman's Foreign Minister. The two officials met on the sidelines of the eighth joint meeting of the foreign ministers of Pakistan and Oman to discuss security and trade issues.

Ismail Baqaei, spokesperson for Iran's Foreign Ministry, in response to the negotiations between Iran and Oman to establish a new management mechanism for the Strait of Hormuz, stated that the two countries, as coastal states of this strait, have a special responsibility for ensuring the security and safety of shipping in this strategic waterway. He emphasized that Iran has always considered itself committed to ensuring maritime security in this region.

New Negotiations and Agreements

Baqaei also referred to ongoing activities between Iran and Oman to determine safe routes for commercial vessels and announced that the two countries are in the process of agreeing on a temporary safe route. These negotiations are taking place amid recent developments in the region and military threats against Iran, which have raised serious concerns.

The spokesperson for Iran's Foreign Ministry clarified that any sustainable and long-term mechanism for managing and ensuring the security of the Strait of Hormuz must be established with the participation and agreement of the two coastal countries, especially Iran and Oman. He stressed that the interference of third parties should not disrupt this process.

New agreements between Iran and Oman could be seen as an effective measure to reduce tensions and increase security in the Strait of Hormuz and its surrounding areas. These developments could also have significant implications for global shipping and energy supply.
