Nanjing Tanker (Nanjing Tanker), controlled by China Merchants, has ordered four new LR2 oil tankers from Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Corporation). This order increases the company's new construction program in this sector in Dalian to six tankers.

Details of the New Contract

This order follows a tender held last month, with Dalian being announced as the winner of the tender. The new tankers must comply with the IMO Tier III greenhouse gas emissions standards and the Phase III Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) requirements. Currently, no price or delivery date for these tankers has been announced, and the construction contract has not yet been officially disclosed.

History of Nanjing Tanker Orders

Nanjing Tanker previously ordered two LR2 tankers with a capacity of 115,000 deadweight tons (dwt) in Dalian, with the contract signed in September 2025 and delivery scheduled for August and October 2028. This latest order represents Nanjing Tanker's steps to triple its share in the large tanker sector.

This move is part of a broader program for fleet modernization, in which Nanjing Tanker has registered several orders at domestic yards. The company has also reserved two Panamax tankers with a capacity of 65,000 dwt in Dalian and contracted four MR vessels with a capacity of 50,000 dwt from Guangzhou Shipbuilding in July for a total cost of $182.8 million.

Current Status of Nanjing Tanker Fleet

As of the end of June, Nanjing Tanker controls 73 ships with a total weight of approximately 2.8 million deadweight tons (dwt), including 34 product tankers. The company's existing fleet mainly consists of MR tankers, and this new move will help increase the diversity and efficiency of its fleet.
