Hedayatollah Khademi, a former member of the Energy Commission of the Parliament, mentioned the 400 million cubic meter gas imbalance in Iran while assessing the outlook for gas supply for the winter season, stating that this issue has become one of the main challenges to the country's energy security. He pointed out that Iran, as the second-largest holder of gas reserves in the world, faces a gas shortage in winter, saying: "This year, in addition to the usual imbalance, some of our gas facilities and refineries have also been damaged in recent attacks."
Challenges of Gas Supply in Winter
Khademi stated that cold weather, as an unpredictable factor, affects the country's energy security, saying: "We have been able to increase production in onshore fields, but the reality is that we still have a gas shortage of about 400 million cubic meters." He also referred to financial problems in importing gas from Turkmenistan, stating: "Turkmenistan is willing to swap and transfer gas to Iran, but currently, it is engaging with our competitor, Azerbaijan."

Competition with Neighbors in Extracting from Joint Fields
Khademi continued by referring to the status of extraction from joint fields, saying: "In the South Pars joint field, the small country of Qatar is extracting at maximum capacity and has become the main LNG producer in the world, but we are still struggling with imbalance." He also mentioned Iraq's production plans, noting: "Iraq has a production plan of over 5.5 million barrels per day, while our fields have reached the second half of their lifespan and we are facing challenges in increasing recovery rates."
This energy expert finally pointed out the lag in joint offshore fields, saying: "In the Farzad field shared with Saudi Arabia, this country is seriously developing, but we haven't even established a single platform. We have practically abandoned these fields, and this trend has been ongoing for decades."
