Hamid Bord, the head of the Ministry of Oil, departed this morning (Sunday, October 25) for Moscow, the capital of Russia, to participate in the eighth summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF). This summit is part of Iran's efforts to develop cooperation and gas exchanges with the member countries of this forum.

Objectives of the trip to Russia

Bord stated before his departure to Russia that Iran, as one of the founders of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum, will explain the positions of the Islamic Republic of Iran in various meetings. He emphasized that bilateral meetings will be held with the oil and energy ministers of the member countries on the sidelines of this summit. The aim of these meetings is to negotiate the development of cooperation and bilateral activities in the energy sector.

Key topics of the summit

The head of the Ministry of Oil also referred to the most important topics of interest in this summit. Among these topics are the examination of solutions to preserve and protect energy infrastructure in times of war and crisis, and the pursuit of gas exchanges with exporting countries. Bord also emphasized the necessity of creating a common gas market and greater coordination among exporting countries to adopt joint policies in the field of gas exports.

He mentioned the energy relations between Iran and Russia, stating: "Russian companies have contracts for the development of some oil and gas fields in Iran, and negotiations regarding gas exchanges between the two countries are ongoing." Bord hopes that he can achieve favorable results during this trip and further strengthen cooperation and energy exchanges between Iran and Russia.

The twenty-eighth ministerial meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum will be held on Tuesday (October 26), one day before the summit of the forum's leaders. Additionally, an extraordinary executive committee meeting chaired by Seyed Ali Mohammad Mousavi, the Deputy for International Affairs and Commerce of the Ministry of Oil, and a high-level committee meeting will also take place today (Sunday, October 25).

The review and finalization of the main documents, including the final statement of the leaders' summit, are among the agendas of these meetings, which are hoped to strengthen international cooperation in the energy sector.
