Gallagher Bassett, the risk management and claims division of Arthur J. Gallagher, has acquired the London-based maritime law firm Winter & Co Solicitors. This move is a continuation of the company's transaction trend to expand its maritime business.
Details of the Acquisition and Company Activities
The financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed. Winter & Co provides legal advice on transportation issues to P&I clubs, marine insurers, shipowners, and charterers. Glen Winter and his team in London will operate under the supervision of Manan Sagar, the head of operations for Gallagher Bassett in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.
This acquisition is Gallagher Bassett's second deal in the maritime law firm sector in the past five months. In May, the company acquired the maritime law firm Mays Brown Solicitors, which specializes in maritime legal issues. The firm's clients include owners, operators, charterers, P&I clubs, insurers, and shipbuilding yards. The details of this transaction have also not been publicly disclosed.
Expansion of Gallagher Bassett's Maritime Activities
Gallagher Bassett is also expanding its maritime claims-related businesses. In February, the company acquired Bremen-based Reck & Co, which provides claims review, management, recovery, and loss prevention services to global transportation and maritime markets.
These transactions follow Gallagher Bassett's acquisition of London-based W K Webster in February 2025. W K Webster specializes in marine and transit claims management and has offices in Singapore, the United States, and the Netherlands.
The latest acquisition adds another maritime legal team to Gallagher Bassett, complementing the claims and marine review businesses it has established over the past two years.
Gallagher's broader marine operations include insurance and claims related to hull and machinery, cargo, and P&I, providing insurance and claims services to owners and charterers globally.
