Equinor, the Norwegian state energy company, has activated its pricing options for drilling additional wells with the semi-submersible platform Deepsea Atlantic. This platform, owned by the Scotland-based company Odfjell Drilling, was built in 2009 and is recognized as a GVA 7500 design platform.

Details of the New Contract

On October 16, 2023, Equinor announced that it has activated pricing options for two additional wells as part of the continuation of the current contract for the Deepsea Atlantic platform. This action will extend the official contract for this platform until the end of the fourth quarter of 2027, maintaining the agreed prices from the initial contract. Additionally, Equinor still holds pricing options for drilling two more additional wells.

Return to Work and Repairs of the Deepsea Atlantic Platform

The Deepsea Atlantic platform has recently returned to operation after being out of service for 106 days due to an equipment-related incident. In April 2023, the Blowout Preventer (BOP) system of this platform fell to a depth of approximately 1,100 meters on the seabed. During the downtime, Odfjell Drilling was able to recover the fallen BOP system and, after necessary repairs and the installation of an additional system in storage, returned the platform to operation.

Furthermore, Equinor has received a contract extension for the supply vessel Viking Avant from Eidesvik Offshore. This extension directly continues the current contract and extends the official period of this vessel until the end of 2027, with options for further extensions. Helga Katgrov, CEO of Eidesvik Offshore, stated that Viking Avant has been serving Equinor since its delivery in 2004, and this extension reflects the vessel's consistent performance and its team's efforts.
