Eight U.S. Marines sustained serious injuries as a result of an Iranian missile attack on a ship in the Strait of Hormuz on September 14, 2026. This incident occurred while U.S. forces were attempting to maintain maritime security in this sensitive area.

Details of the Attack on the Ship in the Strait of Hormuz

According to obtained information, this ship, which was under U.S. contract, was targeted by an Iranian cruise missile. Three U.S. officials stated that eight Marines were injured in this attack due to smoke inhalation and possibly brain injuries from the blast. Fortunately, all of them returned to their duties after treatment.

Maritime Traffic Status in the Strait of Hormuz

U.S. forces are working to maintain the flow of commercial shipping at the southern end of the Strait of Hormuz and have achieved significant successes in this regard. Currently, over 10 million barrels of crude oil pass through this strait daily, which is seen as a sign of improved maritime traffic after months of reduced activity. The U.S. Central Command has not provided further details about its methods, but it appears that these methods do not include direct escort of U.S. Navy vessels.

Alongside attacks on U.S. assets in the region, Iran has also shown that it is seeking to seize U.S. Navy drones near the Strait of Hormuz. A recent claim refers to the capture of a Remus 600 drone, which is considered a standard reconnaissance drone of the U.S. Navy. Iran had previously captured a larger and more advanced autonomous diver known as Anduril Dive-LD.

These developments occur amid rising tensions in the Persian Gulf region, with threats continuing. It seems that Iran is looking to enhance its military capabilities and utilize maritime technologies that could impact the balance of power in the region.
