Carnegie Clean Energy has completed the foundations of the CETO wave energy unit and is ready to deploy this unit at the Biscay Marine Energy Platform (BiMEP). This project is designed as part of the ACHIEVE program, which aims to develop innovative renewable energy technologies.

CETO Technology and Its Operation

CETO is a point-absorber wave energy technology that is fully submerged underwater. This device includes a submerged buoy located several meters below the water's surface, which moves with ocean waves. The orbital motion of this buoy activates the PTO (Power Take-Off) system, converting this motion into electricity.

Carnegie Clean Energy announced today, September 22, that the final preparations for the foundation of this unit have been completed, and it will be ready for the deployment of the CETO Buoyant Actuator starting in October. This phase marks the first step in a staged deployment, commissioning, and testing at BiMEP.

Preparation for Deployment and Testing

In addition to preparing the foundation, the assembly of the PTO modules is also underway to ensure all electricity generation equipment is completed before testing and integration in the second deployment phase. Simultaneously, the construction of the floating buoys is nearing completion in the Basque Country.

After the floating buoy is completed, this unit will be transported to the port and will be ready for the first phase of deployment. Concurrently, testing of the PTO module will take place nearby to ensure the electricity generation system is operational before the marine deployment in the second phase.

This unit will operate at BiMEP for two years, collecting data to validate and advance the commercialization of CETO technology.
