Britain has recently announced that it has imposed new sanctions on the new fleet of Russian LNG tankers. This action follows the rising tensions in Ukraine and the increase in Russian airstrikes against the country. According to the provided information, these sanctions include three large LNG ice-class tankers that have been delivered from the Zvezda shipbuilding complex.
Details of the Sanctions
The Minister for Europe, Lord Wood, stated in a statement that Russia has significantly attacked Ukraine in recent months and has deployed over 3,100 drones in September. He also referred to the fake elections in the occupied territories and Russia's ongoing propaganda efforts. Britain believes that international sanctions have so far inflicted nearly $500 billion in damage to the Russian economy and has emphasized the need to maintain this pressure.

In this announcement, Britain has added new sanctions to approximately 600 other Russian ships and fleets that are used in shadow fleets. Among the newly sanctioned tankers are the vessels Alexey Kasigin (IMO 9904546), Konstantin Pozit (IMO 9904704), and Pyotr Stolpin (IMO 9904675). Each of these tankers has a capacity of over 172,000 cubic meters of liquefied natural gas and is recognized as one of the most advanced LNG tankers in the fleet.
Supplementary Sanctions and Consequences
In addition to the new tankers, Britain has also imposed sanctions on the company Novatek and its "Gas and Energy Asia" unit based in Singapore. These sanctions also include a small tanker for supply and refueling that has recently been delivered to Turkey for recycling. Additionally, a naval support vessel registered in Sri Lanka has been added to this list.
In these sanctions, Britain has targeted 23 other individuals and entities involved in various fields. Eight of these individuals are being pursued for human rights violations and mistreatment of Ukrainian civilians, while seven others are being prosecuted for using propaganda to indoctrinate and militarize Ukrainian children.
Lord Wood concluded by stating that Britain remains committed to supporting Ukraine against Russia's aggression, and the new sanctions reflect this commitment. In this regard, Britain has also extended the exemptions it had granted to South Korea and Japan for LNG imports to ensure the energy security of these countries.
