Blue Autonomy, a marine technology company based in Athens, has launched a new online academy designed to educate and enhance the skills of maritime professionals. This academy starts with 39 self-paced courses, helping professionals achieve a better understanding of ship performance data and also gain the ability to challenge and defend this data.
Details of the Training Courses
Blue Autonomy's training courses are organized into nine different specialties and are dedicated to various groups including technical observers, performance analysts, fleet managers, and marine engineers. These courses cover topics such as ship resistance and propulsion, hull and propeller performance according to ISO 19030, speed tests according to ISO 15016, and fuel quality and quantity.
The academy specifically focuses on the mechanics behind ship performance, and its courses include topics such as data quality, fleet efficiency, and regulations related to greenhouse gas emissions, alternative fuels, and energy-saving technologies. Additionally, each course concludes with a graded exam, and the certification is verifiable through a public database.
Academy Certificates and Credentials
Certificates issued by the Blue Autonomy Academy are recognized as private professional training and are not offered as official government certifications. The certification system requires a minimum score of 80% for course exams, and there are three attempts allowed to succeed in the exam. Specialized certificates require the completion of individual courses as well as a final exercise based on ship data and business or technical decisions.
Blue Autonomy has also announced that seven training courses will be offered free of charge to users, including specialties in marine decarbonization and compliance with regulations. This approach allows users to benefit from educational content without any upfront cost.
Christos Papandriou, founder and CEO of Blue Autonomy, stated: "Every number reported by a ship is based on calculations done by someone. The academy trains those responsible for these numbers to analyze them, review inputs, and defend the final outcome."
Papandriou is recognized as a naval architect and marine engineer with about 15 years of experience in fleet performance and operational data. He has previously collaborated with companies such as NEMO, DeepSea Technologies, StormGeo, and PwC.
