Amir Estaki, a Red Crescent rescuer, detailed his rescue efforts in a recent television program. He announced that on the 9th of Esfand, he went to a location near the Imam Khomeini Hosseiniyeh and began rescue operations. Estaki mentioned the challenges of identifying bodies and the condition of Mojtaba Khamenei in his explanations.
Identification and Current Conditions
Estaki said in the program: "We went behind the Imam Khomeini Hosseiniyeh and started working. It was very difficult to identify whose bodies were being taken out. It was unlikely that anyone would come out alive from that building, and we hoped our leader was not in that building." These statements reflect the high psychological pressure on rescuers in such situations.
Mojtaba Khamenei's Exit
Amir Estaki continued: "In the initial moments, I saw Mr. Mojtaba Khamenei; there was a slight debris on him. I didn't recognize him myself; my companion said he is Mojtaba. He was not heavily injured and was walking on his own feet. Of course, he was helping others." This hopeful news about Mojtaba Khamenei's condition comes amid the unfortunate reports following this incident.
Red Crescent rescuers, as first responders in such incidents, play a vital role in saving lives and assisting the injured. Estaki emphasized that such incidents require specific preparedness and capabilities, highlighting the importance of training and appropriate equipment for rescuers.
