Akrotiri Tankers, which has recently entered the shipping industry, has just placed its second order for a Suezmax tanker worth $84.4 million at New Times Shipbuilding. This tanker, with a capacity of 157,000 dWT, is set to be delivered in June 2029. With this order, the number of Suezmax tankers in Akrotiri's fleet has increased to two.
History and Development of Akrotiri Tankers
Akrotiri Tankers, led by Marielena Procopiou and Konstantinos Lampsias, placed its first order earlier this year for a similarly sized tanker at an approximate price of $82 million at New Times. This tanker is also scheduled for delivery in 2029. This move signifies Akrotiri's expansion from LR1 product tankers to larger Suezmax tankers.
Partnership with New Times
New Times has quickly become Akrotiri's main partner in building new tankers. This shipping company began its operations with two LR1 tankers at this yard late last year and then moved towards larger high-capacity vessels in the crude oil sector. Additionally, earlier this month, Akrotiri added two large tankers with a capacity of 93,000 cubic meters for delivery in 2029 to its fleet, marking the company's first experience in gas transportation.
The development of Akrotiri Tankers in the shipping industry, given the growing demand for new tankers and the increasing need for the transportation of raw materials globally, reflects a significant long-term strategy in this field. The company is gradually expanding its fleet and entering new markets, which could lead to an increase in its market share in the future.
