The aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush (Nimitz-class) arrived at the deep port of Phuket in Thailand on October 4, 2026. As part of its strike group, it has come to Thailand for rest and recreation after six months of presence in the Middle East.
Maritime Operations in the Middle East
During the past six months, this ship has supported Operation Epic Fury and the U.S. maritime blockade in the area of responsibility of U.S. Central Command. The goal of these operations has been to ensure maritime security and stability in the Middle East. According to the U.S. Navy, this trip to Phuket is the first port of call for the USS George H.W. Bush strike group since departing Norfolk, Virginia, and Mayport, Florida, in March.

Cultural and Social Activities in Thailand
The crew of this aircraft carrier will spend five days from October 4 to 9, 2026, on this popular island. Various cultural and social programs have been planned for these personnel, including tours of sightseeing areas and a football match between the United States and Thailand. The ship is currently anchored near the shores of Phuket, and it is expected that crew members will gradually come ashore through the deep port of Phuket.
This visit follows a five-day stop of the aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln in Laem Chabang, eastern Thailand, where approximately 5,000 sailors and Marines were present. It seems that the rest and recreation of these forces on the island of Phuket will help strengthen cultural and social ties between the United States and Thailand and provide an opportunity for interaction between the two countries.
