AG Seville Shipyard has secured the operating rights for the ship repair facilities at the Port of Seville. This selection was approved on October 20, 2023, by the board of the Port Authority of Seville, allowing the company to operate at the site of the former Astilleros del Guadalquivir facilities. AG Seville's current contract ends in December 2023, and the new contract will include 22,000 square meters of land and port infrastructure.

Contract Details and Investment Plan

The new contract for AG Seville Shipyard could last up to 25 years, although it still requires final administrative approval for the new agreement to be officially executed. The company faced competition for the facilities from the Spanish maritime group Boluda, which had expressed interest in acquiring the site. AG Seville has held part of the former shipbuilding facilities in Seville since 2017 and has begun operations for the repair and maintenance of ships at this location.

Investment in Upgrades and Development

AG Seville Shipyard plans to invest around €10 million ($11.2 million) in upgrade and expansion projects under this contract. The bidding conditions also required the successful operator to invest at least €3 million ($3.4 million) during the first three years, which will include improvements to the slipway and dry dock infrastructure. While AG Seville's proposed €10 million plan is not a contractual obligation, it reflects the company's commitment to developing the facilities.

Additionally, the Port Authority of Seville has approved financing of €4.2 million ($4.7 million) for improvements to the free zone at the Port of Seville. This decision raises the total budget for modernizing the area to €8 million ($9 million) and includes enhancements to electrical infrastructure, roads, lighting, and other facilities serving businesses active in the industrial area of the port.

The Port Authority will be responsible for financing and managing the technical aspects of the improvement projects, which could contribute to economic growth and enhance service quality at the Port of Seville.
